Recently we learnt about the story of Molly Watson. In December 2023 Molly became a PFH resident, when she moved into her bungalow in Hull. Molly’s story is one in which we felt the need to share because we feel like it will be able to help so many other people in her situation. We spoke with Molly last week so that we could learn more about her amazing story.

At the age of 80, this is the first time that Molly has moved home. Molly grew up in her previous home and just before she got married, her parents decided to move and she bought the house. She laughed as she recalled her mother passing the keys to the estate agent, for them to pass them directly to Molly – who was stood next to her mother. After living with her eight other siblings and parents, the house finally belonged to Molly and her partner, and they spent many happy years together raising their family in it.

When her husband sadly passed away and her daughter had grown up and started a family of her own Molly was left in her beloved house alone. Although she loved her house and her landlord, she was concerned about the anti-social behaviour that had developed on her street and the impact the stairs were having on her physical health and lifestyle. After many years of thinking about it, and talking with her daughter, Molly decided that a house move was the best way to move forward and improve her quality of life.

She kept her house move quiet from her neighbours, who she was very friendly with, as she didn’t want to become too upset or think about how scared she was about moving home for the first time. But Molly now says she wishes she hadn’t had even given it a second thought.

Molly said:

“My new bungalow is absolutely perfect! I kept putting the move off as it was a big change and I was convinced that I wouldn’t settle anywhere else but it is the best thing I’ve ever done. My legs don’t ache as much from going up and down the stairs and I know my daughter feels much better about my health and safety.

I’d tell anybody in the same situation as me to not worry about it and to put ‘your sensible head on’. This has been a great move for me. All of my new neighbours are friendly and the staff are lovely.”

The courage this took from Molly hasn’t gone unnoticed her the team at PFH and we really hope that by sharing her story, we can show how easy and beneficial moving house into a PFH home can be.
