The Regulator of Social Housing has released a new set of consumer standards that are required of social landlords to protect residents and improve the services we offer.

The new standards came into force on 1 April 2024. PFH work hard to achieve these standards at all times and regularly assess performance against these standards internally.

Consumer Standards explained

This standard focuses on ensuring that landlords understand the condition of all of their homes and make use of that data to provide safe, quality homes. Landlords are required to deliver repairs, maintenance and planned improvements in an effective, efficient and timely manner, and must be clear on their health and safety responsibilities.

This standard ensures landlords are transparent with residents, treat them fairly and respectfully so they can access services. Residents must be able to voice concerns where necessary, influence decisions, and hold the landlord accountable.

This standard ensures Landlords engage with relevant parties to ensure tenants live in secure, well-maintained neighbourhoods and feel safe in their homes. We are committed to managing anti-social behaviour, working to prevent hate crime, make common and shared spaces safe, protect those experiencing domestic abuse and work with other agencies.

This standard outlines fair allocation and letting of homes, as well as requirements for managing tenancies by landlords.

The government is consulting on its proposals to introduce a new, regulatory standard relating to the competence and conduct of social housing staff. This standard will require senior managers and executives to have, or be working towards, a relevant qualification. It will ensure that staff have up-to-date skills, knowledge and experience, and that they exhibit the right behaviours to deliver a high quality, professional service and treat residents with respect.

This standard did not go live from 1st April 2024 and has been through various rounds of consultation. PFH are fully prepared to adopt this standard.
