Padstow Close is an exciting £3.96 million development by Pickering and Ferens Homes and supported by Homes England. The scheme will deliver 24 new bungalows on a brownfield site situated within a residential area. With a focus on caring for the environment, bird and bat boxes are being built into the bungalows as well as options for rainwater harvesting.

Unity Homes is project managing the site on PFH’s behalf. Safety and considerate construction practices are paramount at Padstow Close. The recent inspection by the Considerate Constructors Scheme awarded the site an overall score of 37 out of 45, recognising it as very good.

The site excelled in the following areas:

  • Respecting the Community: Excellent community engagement and responsiveness to local concerns, especially during piling operations.
  • Caring for the Environment: Good practices in waste management, carbon reduction, and environmental protection.
  • Valuing the Workforce: Very good focus on employee well-being, training, and health and safety measures.

The Padstow Close project goes beyond just building homes; it aims to create lasting social value with a focus on environmental sustainability. The construction techniques employed at Padstow Close, such as the use of solar panels and electric vehicle charging points demonstrate efforts to minimise the environmental footprint.

Feedback from the Considerate Constructors Scheme says, ‘Visiting the site again, it’s clear that the management of Azza Construction are committed to the Considerate Constructor principles. Actions from previous feedback have improved the score and community engagement. While addressing carbon usage and Net Zero remains a goal, the focus on workforce safety and wellbeing is impressive.
